An Advent Book of Days is a fresh compliment to the story I mistakenly believed I knew well. So thoughtfully put together, it is not preachy or stiff, rather it welcomes the reader in like a warm friend, delighting and encouraging him along the way. Bishop Gregory's guiding and loving tone is that of a brother in Christ rather than a giant in the pulpit, which he certainly is. Readers will feel shepherded through the chapters, as though Bishop Gregory takes a personal interest in our Christian faith and education. Appropriate Scripture supports the book's lessons. And the prayers ending each chapter help us pause in the middle of learning so as to tie us to the Father in that very moment. The icing on the cake is a splendid collection of his own illustrations, each carefully rendered and explained. An Advent Book of Days is an ideal gift in these times of chaotic uncertainty.
